The metal has been acid tested and is silver, but is very likely to be a lower grade silver than 925 silver, for example 900 or 800 silver. It was originally gilded with a thin layer of gold this is a little faded over time but there is still a gold tone appearance. The only stamp on the reverse of the buckle are initials I think they are probably DC though a little
