This Chinese camphor chest is from Tianjin and is finished with burgundy lacquer and dates to circa 1900. Chinese camphor trunks were traditionally utilized for storing clothing. They were made from camphor wood, a natural deterrent against moths and insects and therefore safeguarded clothes and silk
