Japanese Choba Dansu - Meiji Period Material - Catalpa Wood 5 cm x 25 (wThis Japanese choba dansu merchant chest dates from the Meiji Period (1868 1912). It is made in the traditional Osaka style. Its constructed from a mix of Keyaki, (Red Elm Zelkova) on the drawers and door fronts, and Hinoki, (Cypress wood )on the front framework. The "box" is made from Sugi, (Cryptomeria). As with most Japanese furniture, the carpentry is excellent and although it is lightweight, it is extremely well made. It has very functional
