Ancestor worship used to be very common in China and joss sticks would be lit daily in front of the house. This shrine is made in the form of a traditional Chinese home with a tiled roof embellished with makara (water dragons). The family shrine (kan) was an important piece of furniture in a traditional Chinese household and was usually displayed on an altar table against the rear
