Description

or cueda seca

The molded and multi-colored glazed block shows a rabbit sitting in profile in a grassy garden

This sweet tile trivet has an image designed by William Wise in 1879

Most tiles of the time were covered in a single color glaze or in some mottled effect and it is rare to see these in a multi-color glazed application demanding intensive hand work

I can imagine that these were part of the signage in one of those roadside tourist attractions which proliferated in the early part of the 20th Century

Vintage Cherub Face Fountain Spitter Tile English Tile or cueda secaA handsome vintage fountain spitter in the form of a cherub's face with curly hair. It measures 6 1 4 square, made from a dense red quarry tile clay and glazed in a glossy chocolate brown. Found in Santa Barbara California years ago. It is unsigned. Possibly mid century Mexican in origin. Very good unused condition with a few surface scratches from storage. Two available.
