It has retained its original black lacquered finish and original iron hardware. It dates from the 19th century, is over 150 years old (Qing Dynasty 1644 1911), and is constructed from elm wood ( yumu). The drawer carving is in the traditional Shanxi style. Cabinets like these were probably custom made for a wealthy farming or trading family. References: A
